SESAME

The science-led programme for athlete managers and sports management careers

Athlete managers decide schedules, travel, competition entries and support every week, yet most sports management training stops at operations and marketing. SESAME teaches you how athlete development actually works, using cases from fourteen years at Sporting Ethos, so you can manage athletes the way high-performance systems do.

Who it is for

Three ways in

SESAME is for individuals. You enrol yourself, whether you already manage athletes or are preparing for your first role.

WorkingAthlete managers

You already look after athletes and want the scientific grounding to make better decisions and earn the trust of coaches and sport science staff.

GraduatesSports management graduates

You have the degree and want the athlete-side knowledge that sets you apart when applying to academies, federations, leagues and agencies.

StudentsSports management students

You are still studying and want practical, case-based learning from a working sport science centre alongside your course.

Curriculum

Three modules, taught through real cases

You will not learn to practise sport science. You will learn enough to follow it, question it and act on it, through cases from our own work with athletes.

Module 1

Scientific foundations

How athlete development decisions are made

A grounding in each sport science discipline, so you can understand a recommendation and back it when it matters.

  • Sport science and the high-performance model
  • Case deep-dives in rehab, goal setting, testing, psychology and nutrition
  • Reading basic athlete monitoring data and progress reports
  • Workload, recovery and injury risk in planning
Module 2

Athlete management in practice

The day-to-day work around the athlete

The operational side of the job, done with the athlete's development in view rather than only the calendar and the budget.

  • Competition calendars, travel and logistics planning
  • Working with coaches, sport science staff, athletes and parents
  • Athlete branding, social media and sponsorship
  • Representation, contracts and documentation
Module 3

Welfare, ethics & your career

Duty of care and professional practice

The responsibilities that come with managing athletes, and how to build a career in sports management.

  • Athlete welfare, safeguarding and life after sport
  • Handling supplement and anti-doping questions responsibly
  • Compliance, probity and keeping a clear record of decisions
  • Career paths, roles and how to present your skills
Where it can take you
